“Graffiti belongs to an earlier period of my life… When I first got a studio in 2005 I spent a few years trying to unlearn my previous obsessions with style and a contrived sense of detail. Ultimately the narrow parameters of graffiti pushed me to look for wider social narratives. So for me, moving from one discipline to the other wasn’t a natural progression. It was more a re-boot! My focus on materials?… I think it probably originated from being a graffiti artist. Graffiti artists look at their surroundings differently than your average commuter. They become acutely aware of the space and material aspects between point A and B. Eventually I made the switch from painting on the city surfaces to working with the physical and metaphysical qualities of materials that lay beneath.”

Steve More also opens his first Solo exhibition in the the United States with “Topography of Time“. Steve More has to be one of the most underrated artists in the Urban art genre. Cerebral work minimal in nature but with conceptual depth and aesthetic textures that are beautiful. Steve was interviewed by White Walls Gallery above is a quote from the interview that you can read in full here. Make sure you do see this impressive body of work in Person if you are in SF.

The Topography of Time, a solo exhibition by artist, Steve More, is a visual history of urban art and the urban experience. In a White Walls Project Space exclusive interview with More, we learn that he attributes his highly textural representations of the urban experience to his previous artistic career in graffiti, stating, “graffiti artists look at their surroundings differently than your average commuter. They become acutely aware of the space and material aspects between point A and B.” The UK based artist further explains that this conceptual exhibition relies heavily on the physical and metaphysical qualities of the materials that lay beneath. Check out the interview below to read more about the artist himself and what to expect from his October show!
