Poesia also opened his latest solo exhibition alongside Duncan Jago this weekend in San Francisco. “Reflexive” opened at the Shooting Gallery and consisted of 4 large scale paintings and mix media collages. Below is a quote from the artist about the series of work.

GF

“Reflexive is a body of work that continues my series in the deconstruction and alterations of the original Old Master images. Reflexive is a self conscious use of the textualities that lie within the original paintings and their new deconstructed counterparts. It is through the remix and reinterpretation of historical paintings that I seek to build a new experience with painting. Through reclaiming colorplates from art history books, and reproduced postcards and posters I also set out to contrast the alterations through these reproductions that are not paintings but replicas.” Poesia

San Francisco-based and self taught “graffuturist” artist, Poesia, was born in 1975 and has been making his mark on wall and canvas for the past 25 years. Whether he is mirroring the work of old masters, composing collages, or creating gestural abstract paintings, Poesia’s work consistently carries the same sense of immediacy as seen in contemporary street art. With this concept in mind, Poesia created “Graffuturism,” a league of street artists that value the urgency and directness of graffiti, as well as fast paced and physical aspects involved with street art, but have evolved beyond their initial roots.
