We wanted to share with you some of Graphic Surgery’s recent walls. After working with the Duo we were able to get a large sample of murals, wall installations, and general work in the outdoors. Choosing to share the work in only black and white allows the viewer to engage the work without the complication of color, and instead focus on form and the contrasts of environment and composition. The Amsterdam duo usually work in black and white, show well in this minimal way. After putting together the feature somewhat chronologically over the past year we are able to witness a nice progression of their work on walls. You can see over the past couple of murals a simplification of form and minimal approach taken that is not far from their initial more intricate compositions. This minimal progression is important when viewing the work of Graphic Surgery, as with many other artists it is key to witness a large body of work that is stripped down to its fundamental forms and principles. For me this is the important aspect of their new work and why although minimal it has a profound effect on their overall progression.
