Klughaus Gallery opened their latest exhibition this past week titled “Palingenesis”. The group exhibit brought together notorious Paris members of the PAL crew Gorey, Horfe, Cony, Tomek, Saeyo, Mosa, Esso, Skub. The Pop up exhibition took place in New York’s lower east side and introduced PAL to New York. There is no one particular way to describe the work of PAL or any of the artists, their work is aggressive as their street work is. When artists typically move into a gallery setting it is hard to keep this edge and rawness. PAL has captured that essence that is prominent in their work on the streets. Paris is covered in the artwork of the PAL crew from pieces, to tags, to throw ups PAL has made an imprint on their city. Taking this energy to New York and exhibiting it in a gallery allows others to see the artists in a different light. What distinguishes PAL crew from others taking graffiti indoors is their ability to capture the same gesture and power associated with a tag or quick piece. Their work is done with the same tempo and grittiness, there is no slowing down or refinement needed. The work does have some more intricate rendering than some walls, but only due to scale being involved. With “Palingenesis” the crew has successfully translated their language of the street onto paper or canvas. This is something that many have tried, yet many failed. An impressive show that we strongly endorse. Go see it before its gone.

Klughaus, in collaboration with LRG and Brisk, is excited to announce PALINGENESIS, a special pop-up exhibit in New York City’s Lower East Side featuring Gorey and Paris’ prolific PAL (Peace and Love) Crew. The group exhibition features a roster of internationally-renowned artists including GOREY, HORFE, CONY, TOMEK, SAEYO, MOSA, ESSO and SKUB.

One of the most prominent graffiti crews in Paris, PAL is united by its members’ shared love of creative expression. With GOREY as a forefather, PAL has developed a unique movement and style of graffiti that is completely its own. While there is a complicated, yet fascinating line between graffiti and fine art, the collective has made a seamless transition into the art world in a tasteful way that does not categorize the work as simply “graffiti,” yet sustains the collective’s distinct styles and energy within a gallery setting.

The PALINGENESIS exhibition will showcase the collective’s debut in the United States as well as its artistic re-birth as evolving fine artists. Gorey &; PAL’s incorporation of fine art elements into their work on the streets is pushing the concept of graffiti in a new and refreshing direction and we are thrilled to collaborate on their stateside debut.
