While we were in Hawaii for Pow Wow this year one of our favorite murals to witness take shape was this collaborative mural by Madsteez and Roid. The duo teamed up to paint a portrait of Hawaii’s last reigning King of Hawaii King Kalākaua. A colorful mural that enabled each artist to utilize their talents in collaboration. Madsteez’s colorful portrait style worked seamlessly with Roid’s intense palette and use of patterns and letter form. Luckily for those that weren’t able to attend Pow Wow this year we can share this video with time lapse footage of the process. The mural started with a blessing from local Hawaiians and was blessed with a Rainbow after completion as you can see in the final picture. A perfect ending to a beautiful mural.
