WHAT IS POW WOW

The beauty of art is most commonly enjoyed during its final stage. All the blood, sweat and tears happen behind closed doors. However, that is where the real grandeur lies. The process. Imagine for a moment a gathering of internationally renowned artists in one place. A place that will allow them to do what they do best: be creative. We give them the tools, the space and the freedom to paint for one week. We make that process open to the public, allowing them full engagement and interaction between the artists and their audience. They witness the creativity in its entirety and become an essential part of the artists’ process. It’s about the breaking down of those closed doors and making art accessible. Seeing creativity happen from beginning to end and bringing people together through art. A POW WOW.

POW WOW 2010

In February 2010, the first annual Pow Wow event took place in Hong Kong. Creatives were flown in from all over the world to promote creative pursuits in an urban jungle. Artists including Wu Yue, Jasper Wong, Will Barras, Pat Lee, and Jahan produced live art over two days, while DJs Verbal and Yoon masterfully provided musical inspirations.

POW WOW 2011

From there, the second annual Pow Wow was held in Oahu, Hawaii on February, 2011. Following the success of the previous year, most of the original line-up came back on board, with some exceptional local and international additions. New artists included Suitman, Aaron de la Cruz, Jeff Hamada, 123Klan, Meggs, Prime, Ekundayo, Kamea Hadar and more. The event was nothing short of groundbreaking for Hawaii. It became a true testament to the power of art to bring a community together. Over a period of four days, a wide range of individuals came to witness art before their very eyes as well as partake in lecture series and portfolio reviews for young aspiring artists. Even the governor made an appearance to show support. It became a catalyst for creativity on the islands.

POW WOW 2012

With the success of Pow Wow 2011 Pow Wow will now become an annual event in Honolulu. In 2012 we have doubled the artist list with some larger than life names. We have ambitions to take over the whole street and transform it with art. During one week in February, Hawaii will literally be transformed with creative energy. Beautifying a street that was once considered a bane on the neighborhood into a living gallery.

POW WOW 2013+

In future years we hope to keep Pow Wow growing. Expanding the number of artists and murals, transforming the city of Honolulu and state of Hawaii and inspiring other creative events during the Pow Wow week. We have also started plans of Pow Wows in other cities across the globe.
