FFDG opened their latest exhibition last week “Skull and Sword”. On exhibition are new works from the crew at Skull & Sword Tattoo San Francisco. Grime, Lango, Henry Lewis, and Yutaro all have painted new work for the exhibition. Although primarily working as tattoo artists the group showcased their extensive knowledge of multiple mediums, from the mix media pieces from Grime to the intricate Gouache and Spray paint pieces of Lango. An impressive exhibition of paintings and work on paper. We have been big fans of the work of Grime since his early days as a graffiti artist, and if you have visited San Francisco you more than likely have come across one of Lango’s murals. To see the group exhibit new work outside the shop, and exhibit in a gallery setting lets you see the range of these artists talents. We all get stuck in boxes by those that appreciate one of our art forms over another, it is great to see these artists shed the stereotype of a tattoo artist and engage new mediums. The show runs till June 8th make sure to stop by if you are in San Francisco.

FFDG opened up the group show featuring original works by the artists of the world famous Skull & Sword tattoo last Friday here in San Francisco. Thanks to the huge crowd who turned out to support these four incredibly talented artists. Here is a taste of the show, and be sure to swing in to view in person. The show runs through June 8th.

Colab Gallery formerly Carhartt Gallery in Germany will be hosting their latest Group show Public Provocations will open next month. Here is a set of pictures to preview the work of Robert Tone Proch who will have new work in the show. Proch has been very busy this year and his work is hitting new highs. Robert has always been a talented painter but this year we feel he is really coming into his own. Save the date and make sure you see this large group exhibition that opens June 8th in Germany.

The Colab Gallery presents the fifth edition of PUBLIC PROVOCATIONS. It combines various styles, disciplines and techniques of Urban Art. Here is a small preview of some of the work you will be able to see at Italian artist 2501‘s First solo exhibition in North America. “See you on the other Side” will open this week May 24th at Soze Gallery in Los Angeles. We are excited to see 2501 in Los Angeles with his signature line work and newer expressionist series of work. 2501 is an amazing painter who is able to paint from a cerebral place, using his hand to render with only black brushstrokes images and shapes. He also brings a new body of expressionist work to Los Angeles representing circular form and the enigma of its form. Read the show statement below. This is a must attend as 2501′s work speaks loud in person.

”See you on the other side” Solo Exhibition

How many lines (circles) (shapes) did I paint (draw), altogether?

The question seems plain. Indeed, actual numbers are often given. But they disagree and – other than variants of “many”- most of them are meaningless because they give equal weight to flea-rabbit and horse-elephant.

The circle shape (form) and its content (lines or void or macchie) discourage the search for a single numerical answer.

With minimal aesthetic of the monotone use of color (variations of black and white with glance of gold and fluo steam) 2.501 questions the deeper meaning of a propensity toward abstraction and toward infinity.

Playing hide and seek with lines and into circles, 2501 creates a vast moving image pervaded by dialectic between seriality –(reality) and disruption, between repetition and variation. (Roughness and smoothness)

Lines highlight the dynamics of graphic influences trough a constant evocative crescendo of juxtaposing and layering; video, tools, images and sounds trace a living path that weaves between explosions and silence, devastation and contemplation, (rise and fall).

Acting as a portal to somewhere else and as a threshold to the exhibition, the circles reveal a process of hidden connections and cuts, became a bridge without linear shape through which the comprehension of the ways of seeing are challenged. Evolving (animated) surface suggest vertiginous ways of experiencing / seeing/ visualizing, according to the point of view that sight is continually active, continually moving, continually holding things in a circle around itself, constituting what is present to people as they are.

How many circle (lines) (shape) will I paint (draw), altogether? I don’t know but I keep looking for (looking at- we only see what we look at) an infinite (we never look at just one thing) numerical answer. Because the relation between what we see and what we know is never settled. And the aim has been to start a process of questioning.

Alexander “Biserama” Becherer recently opened his solo exhibition at Galerie Kesselhaus “Paratropolis”. With work ranging from paintings and sculptural relief the main portion of the exhibition consisted of a large sculptural work titled Paratropolis. This large sculpture consisted of words and icons creating a large scale city. The city which mimic’s an architectural model of a city or development is an impressive work that comments on our current trend towards urbanization. Our current age, the 21st century, is characterized by worldwide urbanization, sprawling agglomerations of cities, and an increasing rural exodus. As recently as 1970 there were merely 3 so-called mega cities: New York, Tokyo, and Shanghai. Thirty years later there are already 24. This trend and transformation – and the continuing expansion of existing cities – impacts individual biographies as well as society as a whole.

Today more than 3 billion people – almost half of the world’s population – are living in ever growing and barely governable urban agglomerations. Studies predict that close to two thirds of the world population will be living in cities by the year 2030. For the first time in human history there will be significantly more people living in urban spaces than in rural areas.

Augustine Kofie will make his premiere in his first ever solo exhibition in France. Openspace Galerie in Paris will open “California Soul” a solo exhibition with new work from Kofie. The exhibition is the 2nd part of our 100 days in Paris as part of #graffuturismparis. Here is a preview of some of the paintings that will be exhibited. We were impressed with the new body of work. Being familar with Kofie’s paintings we can say that these new works are first-class. Augustine is at his finest form with harmonious form intricate precision and nostalgic color. It is great to see Openspace bring Kofie to Paris and introduce his work to France. Also in Kofie tradition he has made a soundtrack to the show posted above, take a listen. Opening day is May 25th so if you are in Paris don’t miss it.

El Mac opened his first Solo exhibition in some time tonight in Denmark at Galerie Wolfsen with “Street Art Star”. The exhibit featured a new body of large scale work done in his traditional spray painted technique. We were lucky enough to have a studio visit with El Mac prior to the show and witness these amazing paintings. Painted on Burlap with his usual monochromatic tones El Mac stepped these paintings up a level with his negative images. As he showed us using our iphone the negative paintings are actual perfectly rendered when viewing in invert mode. We were blown away by the detail and precision that make shows using one of the hardest caps to control, a fat cap. Overall an impressive body of new work from El Mac for this exhibition. As you know there is nothing more important than seeing not only the studio work of El Mac but his Murals are just as important. He was able to paint this massive mural in Denmark leading up to the exhibition. We were able to get a great set of pictures of the mural installation courtesy of photographer Lone Allen. El Mac shows us why he considered one of today best Muralists. We are jealous of anyone that is able to see this exhibition, it isn’t everyday El Mac opens a solo exhibition. So make sure you head there if you are in Denmark.

Here is a new Mural installation from Elian. The Mural was painted in Argentina as part of the Puente Public Art Project. A great addition to the city, Elian’s colorful composition of geometric and soft form create an impressive mural.

PUENTE is a public art project organized by Kosovo Gallery in the city of Córdoba, Argentina.

It seeks to reclaim city spaces that are out of condition through the street art, improving street lighting, keep the space clean, fixing access for People with Disabilities and other things related to the environment.

in this first edition, the artists were Martin Ron, Elian, Pablo Harymbat (Gualicho) and Peter Quatrix.

in future editions, will conduct an open call for artists living in Argentina who are interested in participating in the project.

PUENTE has the support of the municipality and other private sector entities.

Remi Rough has been extremely busy fresh off his recent group exhibition in Marrakech he travels to Paris to open his latest exhibition at Gallerie Celal. The 2 man exhibition features new work from Remi Rough and RCF1, and is titled “Excuse My French”. The show opened tonight in Paris but will be on exhibit for the coming month. Make sure you stop by.

“On either side of the Channel, Remi Rough from London and RCF1 from Paris, have followed slightly, parallel paths. They studied at the School of the spray can, both of them quickly searched for their own visual vocabulary, beyond than the graffiti writing code of the time. If RCF1′s painting tends to be impulsive and empirical, Remi’s is sharper and more precise. Nonetheless both artists share varying similarities in visual dialogue and a friendship that has lasted over 20 years.”

Agents of Change Remi Rough, Carlos Mare, Derm, LX One, Steve More, and Jaybo were in Marrakech this past week in preparation for their exhibit “Unfolding” at David Bloch Gallerie. As is customary a wall was in order, and the 6 artists got together to collaborate on the mural. Working with old local spray paint and a lack of material the group was still able to paint an impressive wall. Here are some detail images and the final wall. Its great to see all 6 artists working in unison to create one creative objective.

Here is an assorted group of new works from French artist Antistatik. We never get tired of seeing new work from Antistatik, his ability to visualize aggression in his paintings is one of his strong points. Although dynamic and aggressive his work through his masterful use of color and texture his work has a beauty. Antistatik is a painter who is able to utilize the tools of graffiti yet create masterful marks reminiscent of some of master expressionists. His expressionist letters and deconstructed figures create an uneasiness that allows you to feel as much as you see his work.
