Detroit fine art gallery Library Street Collective announces the November 15th new outdoor public exhibition appropriately titled Public Matter. Public Matter will be based in a newly redeveloped alley, ‘the Belt,’ which also features permanent murals by more than a dozen local, national and international artists. Public Matter’s opening exhibition will feature an entirely original body of work from world-renowned muralist and fine art painter POSE (Jordan Nickel). The Public Matter grand opening coincides with POSE’s exhibit LEMONADE, which opens at Library Street Collective the same night.

Curated by Library Street Collective, Public Matter is a fully accessible exhibition platform located between the Z parking garage and within “the Belt,” a newly redeveloped alley connecting Grand River and Gratiot Avenue between Broadway and Library Street in downtown Detroit. The Belt, named for its orientation in a former downtown garment district, also features permanent murals by more than a dozen local, national and international artists including Vhils, Cleon Peterson, Tristan Eaton, Dave Kinsey, Nick Jaskey and Hush. Public Matter will feature rotating exhibitions of paintings by the most recognized and celebrated names in contemporary art, with a particular focus on those artists who have developed their skills and visual art in public spaces. Public Matter consists of five steel frames strategically installed throughout the alley, with each frame holding an 8’ x 12’ or 8’ x 8’ piece of artwork. Library Street Collective has partnered with Bedrock Real Estate Services to present Public Matter’s first exhibition of work by the artist POSE.
