Your vision will become clear only when you look into your own heart.

Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.

– Carl Jung

Presented by The StreetKit Gallery Moscow, ‘Dualism’ by Graffuturists Petro and Slak of the Aesthetics Group, will be running from Friday 15th until 18th May, as part of the gallery’s annual ‘Museum Night in Moscow’ event.

Formed over 9 years ago, the Aesthetics Crew has incorporated a plethora of formidable artists within its assemblage, however it’s embodiment by Petro and Slak signifies a distinct progression within the group’s aesthetic approach to urban representation.

The visually dynamic duo personifies elements of the Graffuturist expression; the rich and purposive lines featured in Dualism’ refer to a decade of experimentation, where geometrical shapes and the deconstruction of traditional Graffiti Lettering symbiotically evolve into an abstract visual:

Our choice is conscious and profound. Every element in any of the drawings is in its own place and could be logically justified. Geometry is not a primitive decoration of the font, our works bear abstraction within letters, and letters within the abstraction.”

Quintessentially topical – the ‘dualistic nature’ is identified by a series of 10 diptychs, created to convey the individual’s graphic technique and artistic expression, and yet Dualism’ evokes a multitude of emotive and sociological connotations; Petro and Slak describe the collection as a visual study of the inner self, during the artistic process: “A closer look at the mechanisms of intellectual and sensual dialectic of art” and yet this introversion may also be regarded as a microcosm of the wider global issues surrounding the Othercontemporary and Urban Arts.

Dualism’ addresses the paradigm of opposites, yet maintains a genuine flow of equality, it is an exhibition with great sincerity and purpose, which acknowledges the fundamental canons of its foundations without undermining the core origins of Graffiti; and further affirms the notion that The Graffuturist Movement has transcended into a global and commercially recognisable ‘Art Genre’.

Your vision will become clear only when you look into your own heart.

Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”

– Carl Jung

By presenting an alternative perspective, each diptych creates an intriguing metaphorical and aesthetic journey; viewing ‘Dualism’ ultimately provides a heightened insight into the artistic intentions of Petro and Slak, and unequivocally demonstrates the strength and (rather paradoxically) complimentary nature of this new Aesthetics Crew.
