Visually stunning, aesthetically pleasing are phrases that come to mind when viewing the work of Stohead for his upcoming exhibition “Now” at Paris Galerie Le Feuvre. You might think those are positive comments about the work of Stohead but we are on a new stage now, aesthetics is only on portion of the conversation and when an image looks as good as these there are those that question the intention immediately. Luckily I am not one of these detractors as I have a clearer historical understanding of these works that anti-aesthetic critics might not share. Viewing these works in from the graffiti narrative you immediately appreciate their impact as progressive letterbased works. It is great to see an artist utilize a their strength in handstyles, and color to create some amazing works. If you are in Paris make sure to stop by for the opening.

Stohead “Now” Solo Show – 20 March > 12 April 2014

Galerie LE FEUVRE 164, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré 75008 Paris

Sometimes it is just the blink of an eye, the short moment – the NOW – that allows you to recognize and be touched by a certain state which is subject to ephemerality. Capturing these moments like a highspeed camera, freezing this state of mind and making it durably visible this is the topic of the new paintings by Stohead/Christoph Hässler. The dancing letters of his urban calligraphy dissolve into hazy structures or are born out of them. In the play with the organic, brightly colored structures they appear in a multi layered context.
